I’ve found recently that the enemy has been trying to resurrect old issues and old fears. Things like fearing not being enough (smart enough, pretty enough, thin enough, etc.) or even fears of being too much (too smart, too intense, too intimidating). It seems that somehow the enemy tries to re-write the story of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” over our lives, where we are constantly feeling too hard or too soft, too hot or too cold, but never just right. These lies of the enemy are targeted towards each of us, but they seem to be especially targeted towards women.
The enemy desires to trap women into an existence, where we are always trying to be something else and we are competing with every other woman for the ever-elusive prize of being “Just Right”. So, how do we come off of this merry-go-round or treadmill of always seeking, but never being?
Ephesians 1:4-6
4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He [a]made us accepted in the Beloved.
In this passage in Ephesians, Paul is essentially saying that the Father has ACCEPTED us willingly, with approval, with value, with esteem, with delight, not because we have in any way earned His approval, but because His Beloved, Jesus, paid the price in full for our approval.
Despite the lies of the enemy, you are enough; you are valuable, and you don’t have to compete with anyone, because you are a “Designer Original.” You have such great worth and such a high price tag, that it took the death, burial, and resurrection of our sinless savior, Jesus Christ, to pay for you. We have to choose to silence the lies and fears of the enemy with the reverberating sound of the TRUTH of God’s word about us. Your worth is not in the size of your bust or the width of your hips. It’s not in the length or texture of your hair and it’s also not in the size of your bank account. It’s not in the number of followers you have on social media, nor in the many titles or roles you have. Your worth, your value is found only in God. It is in our Father’s presence, basking in His Love and Grace, that we stop running, performing and trying to earn approval, even from ourselves. It is in Him, that we can finally rest and BE, who He created us to be.
My encouragement to you this month, is to see yourself through the Master’s Eyes, and embrace who you are—curves or no curves; long hair or short; life of the party or calm, peaceful friend—whoever you are, you were made in His Image, redeemed by His Love and sustained by His Grace. With Jesus, you are “Just Right!”
